At our March, 2026 Board of Directors meeting, the board voted to add a new endorsement to all policies, the WIM 380 Solid Fuel Burning Limitation. As you know, for Solid Fuel Burning devices we do an inspection and add a surcharge, unless it is a fireplace without an insert. Pretty much any other device gets a surcharge.

This endorsement partially states “In the event of a fire loss caused by or attributed to the use of a solid fuel burning device, and for which the required surcharge has not been paid, payment for any claim shall be reduced by one-third (1/3) of the total amount.

This limitation does not apply to a fire loss resulting from a fireplace unless there is a fireplace insert in use.”

This form and the “Important Notice” will be added to all NEW policies as of 4/1/26 and to all RENEWAL policies as of 6/1/26.

Be sure to address this with any of your insured’s that insist that they don’t use their wood stove but refuse to remove it. If that stove causes a fire, there will now be a penalty, which we have not had before. This form can be viewed HERE or by going to our External Links in Spectrum.
